Thank You, thank you, THANK YOU! from the bottom of our squelchy soggy gumboots …the generosity this beautiful island community showed our quirky little Cake/Chai Market Day Spring Fairythingym’jig ie the second fundraiser in the garden – was – to put it mildly – truly TRULY overwhelming!
You are FABULOUS people!!!
And… we love you too!
SO… because of all that LOVE… DiG can continue for another year & beyond… exciting plans are afoot, to improve how the garden runs, and take things to another level …literally!
We’re hoping, all going well, over the next year or so, to implement Luke’s new permaculture design (see above plan & note the great new worm farm in situ he cleverly made for us out of Leigh & Aaron’s old bath). This will happen in stages beginning with re-working and enriching the central garden bed, adding reo mesh extensions to the bowling green fence at the eastern end and building a new wooden arbor on which to grow lovely grapes and other edible climbers. The arbor will provide shade for our wonderful bowlers as well as re-cycled shade-cloth extensions to protect the veggies during the warmer months. We’re also wanting to install the water tank (donated by Cam, Cybele & Jona!) to the shed roof & replace broken slat seats with recycled hardwood PLUS improve our garden beds & compost to make them super productive! Fingers-crossed by this time next year the aim is to have created the beginnings of a truly beautiful sustainable edible garden system surrounding the bowling club. A space that’s lovely to be in AND productive – growing great organic fruit & veg for Sharon’s fantastic kitchen and the community at large! A place that feeds the tummy and the soul.
Come join the fun, drop into one of the regular Sunday morning working bee’s - we’ll need lots of help over summer to water & keep the garden humming! Check the DiG FB page & D.I. league website & our garden chalkboards for regular updates – WE LOVE VOLUNTEERS! Make tea not war lovelies – one cup at a time!
Wish us luck DiGSTARS! Til Neste Gang!
